What the MBTI measures
The MBTI is built on four dichotomies:
- I / E — Introversion vs. Extraversion: where you draw energy. (Extraversion glossary)
- S / N — Sensing vs. Intuition: concrete detail vs. patterns and possibilities. (Related: openness)
- T / F — Thinking vs. Feeling: logic-first vs. values-first decisions.
- J / P — Judging vs. Perceiving: structure vs. flexibility.
Combine one letter from each and you get a type like INFJ, ENTP, or ISTJ. Explore any of them in our personality types library.
How your MBTI results are calculated
For each of the four dichotomies, your answers produce a preference score, and the stronger side becomes your letter. Helel also maps your responses onto the Big Five — since research shows the MBTI's dichotomies correlate with Big Five dimensions (I/E with Extraversion, S/N with Openness, T/F with Agreeableness, J/P with Conscientiousness). That way you see both a type and a percentile profile.
How to read your MBTI type
- Letters are preferences, not absolutes. Being an "I" doesn't mean you never enjoy company.
- Near-boundary letters can flip. If your I/E score is close to 50/50, retaking may give a different letter — that's a known limit of type-sorting.
- Use the Big Five scores for stability. They're dimensional and more reliable over time.
What this test is — and isn't
This is a self-report questionnaire modeled on the MBTI framework, offered for self-understanding. It is not the official, trademarked Myers-Briggs instrument, and it is not a diagnostic or medical tool. Type descriptions are for insight and fun, not clinical assessment.
Self-knowledge can support wellbeing but doesn't replace professional care. If you're in crisis, contact local emergency services or a helpline.
After the test: a companion that goes beyond the four letters
When you approve your profile, Helel pairs your type — and the richer Big Five/HEXACO data behind it — with a live video AI companion that adapts to you. Rather than treating "INFJ" as a script, it responds to your actual measured traits, so two people with the same four letters still get different, personalized conversations.

Frequently asked questions
Is the MBTI test free?
Yes. Helel's MBTI test is free to take, gives your four-letter type instantly, and has no email wall. Meeting your AI video companion afterward is also free to start.
Is the MBTI scientifically accurate?
The MBTI is popular but has weaker scientific support than the Big Five — its types are less stable on retest. That's why Helel pairs your type with a research-backed Big Five profile.
Can my MBTI type change?
It can, especially if your preferences sit near a boundary. The Big Five scores Helel provides alongside your type tend to be more stable over time.
